Search interest, headlines and launches show what people are watching, but not what they will adopt repeatedly or pay for. A more durable view examines three conditions.
Demand, capability and friction
Demand should connect to a defined cost, risk or unmet task. Capability must survive ordinary conditions, integration and understandable failure boundaries. Adoption friction includes regulation, security, skills, data quality and legacy systems.
A technology becomes more interesting when demand strengthens, capability improves and friction declines at the same time. Analysts should record supporting and disconfirming evidence, then update the view rather than defend a fixed forecast.
Trend analysis is not predicting the loudest technology. It is watching when the conditions for adoption align.
